George A. Levicki, DDS, Chair, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Delta Dental of Virginia. Dr. Levicki is the former Chairman for the Delta Dental Plans Association and continues to serve both on their Board of Directors and in other leadership positions. Delta Dental is a national organization of member plans from all 50 states and Puerto Rico, which provide more than $8 billion of dental care services per year to 35 million people.

Jane Norwood Kusiak, Vice Chair, serves as the Executive Director of the Council on Virginia’s Future, which is chaired by Governor Robert McDonnell and is comprised of representatives from the General Assembly and the business community, along with two cabinet officials.
From 1998 through 2003, she served in several roles in the Warner Administration, including Deputy Director of Transition and Director of Policy and Legislation in the Office of the Governor. From September 1984 until July 1998, Ms. Kusiak provided staff support to the Virginia General Assembly. She began her legislative staff career as an analyst for the House Appropriations Committee specializing in health and human resource and finance issues. In 1990, Ms. Kusiak was promoted to Deputy Director of the House Appropriations Committee.
In 1992, she was chosen as the first Executive Director of the Joint Commission on Health Care, an agency that conducts analysis of key health policy issues facing the state.
In 1992, the Richmond Metropolitan Area YWCA named Ms. Kusiak "Outstanding Woman in Government". Ms. Kusiak holds a Bachelor of Science degree in hospital administration from Ithaca College and a Master of Arts degree from St. Louis University. |

She is a partner in Bennett & Owens, a sports management and real estate development firm with a 20-plus year history in Washington, DC.
A long-time advocate for youth and education, she currently serves as a Trustee on the Board of the Good Samaritan Foundation, a non-profit organization serving the needs of inner-city high school students in Washington, DC, is on the Advisory Board of CharityWorks, and, through the I Have a Dream Foundation, was a co-sponsor of Terrell Junior High School in Washington, DC. Lawrence E. Blanchard, III, MD is a managing partner with Dermatology Associates of Virginia. As a former president of the Medical Society of Virginia, Dr. Blanchard has had the opportunity to participate locally, statewide and nationally in organized medicine. Additionally, he has served on the Board of the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation for six years, holding several leadership positions: Board Chairman of the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation (2006-2007), Vice Chairman (2004-2005), and Program Committee Chair (2005-2007). She specializes in providing legislative representation of health care and other business interests before the Virginia General Assembly. Ms. Fox currently serves on the Board of the Westminster Canterbury Foundation; is a managing director of Advantus Strategies, LLC, a government relations consulting company; and serves on the Greater Richmond United Way Public Policy Committee. Kester S. Freeman, Treasurer, is the founder of Palmetto Health, the largest integrated health care delivery system in South Carolina, where he served as Chief Executive Officer until his retirement in 2007. He also spearheaded the creation of Health Sciences South Carolina (HSSC), a health care research collaborative and public-private partnership, and recently completed his term as its first chairman of the board. Mr. Freeman is the recipient of the South Carolina Hospital Association's 1998 Distinguished Service Award and remains actively involved in health care as a consultant. He resides in Central Virginia and serves on the American Hospital Association’s Mental Health Task Force. He is the founding President of the Covering Carolina Collaboration, chair of the University of South Carolina Research Foundation, Interim President of HSSC and a member of the Board of Directors of the Palmetto Health Foundation. He recently served as a member of the National Committee on Quality Health Care board of directors and as a delegate to the Academy for International Health Studies.
As a community leader, Mr. Freeman served as past chairman of the City Center Partnership board of directors and the United Way of the Midlands board of directors. He was a member of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce board of directors the Midlands Business Leadership Group executive committee and board of directors. Charlie Hill retired as Executive Vice President, Human Resources of Landmark Media Enterprises LLC, formerly Landmark Communications, Inc. He has accrued more than 40 years of progressive leadership and managerial experience as an organizational performance and results improvement agent. He is a board member and former president of the Board of Directors of Crispus Attucks Cultural Center, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Free Clinic of Newport News, VA, and has served on the boards of the Corporate Advisory Board of Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia, the INROADS Mid-Atlantic Regional Board of Directors, and the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Advisory council of Hampton Roads, among many other civic endeavors. He also is a former member of the Hampton Roads Health Coalition Board of Directors and a member of the National Association of Minorities in Cable Hall of Fame.
He holds an MBA from Hampton University, a Bachelor's in economics from Virginia State College, and also studied at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. T. Carter Melton, Jr. is the former President and CEO of Rockingham Memorial Hospital, a position he held for 30 years until his retirement in 2008. He also served as President of the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Foundation, from 1974-2008, and was a member of Virginia's Health Reform Commission, created by Governor Kaine to improve access to competent, affordable healthcare for all Virginians.
A recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and the Businessman of the Year award from the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce. He also received the Silver Hope Award, the National MS Society's highest honor.
He serves on the Board of Directors of the MCV Foundation and the Rockingham Group Insurance Company, is the former Chairman of the Board of both the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and the Voluntary Hospitals of America-Central Atlantic, Inc. and was a longtime member of the Board of Visitors of Virginia Military Institute. William C. Mims currently serves as Virginia’s 100th Supreme Court Justice. He was sworn in on April 9th 2010. Prior to his investiture, he was Attorney General of Virginia, elected by the General Assembly in February 2009 after Robert F. McDonnell stepped down in his successful bid for Governor. His term ended in January 2010. In this position, he was responsible for the Office of the Attorney General and its 300 attorneys and staff. Bill Mims served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1992-1997, and in the Virginia Senate from 1998 to 2005. He was Chief Deputy Attorney General from January 2006 until February 2009.
Bill Mims grew up in Harrisonburg, and was educated in the Harrisonburg public schools. He received a degree in History from the College of William and Mary, where he was president of the student body. He also did graduate work in Public Administration at William and Mary. He has law degrees from George Washington University and Georgetown University.
During his years in the General Assembly, Bill Mims worked as an attorney in Leesburg. Prior to practicing law he served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf and as Deputy Legislative Director to Senator Paul Trible. He served on the Board of Governors of the Virginia Bar Association from 2002 through 2004, and was a Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Law at George Mason University from 2002 through 2005. He presently serves on three non-profit boards – Lead Virginia, the Richmond Behavioral Health Authority and Voices for Virginia’s Children. |

G. Gilmer Minor, III is Chairman of the Board of Owens & Minor, Inc. Owens & Minor is an $8 billion Fortune 200 distributor of medical and surgical supplies to hospitals, nursing homes and physicians. He is active on several Boards of Directors, including the Board of Directors of SunTrust Banks, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia, the Advisory Board of the Massey Cancer Center of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), and the Advisory Board of the VCU School of Business. He also serves on the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV), a position to which he was appointed by Governor Tim Kaine in June 2009.

Jean Clary Bagley is President and Owner of Century 21 -- Clary & Associates, Inc. She is a board member of Virginia Power, the Virginia Education Business Partnership, and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership. Ms. Clary is past Chairwoman of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and a former director of Virginia FREE and the Virginia Institute of Political Leadership. She has also served as Chairwoman of the Greensville County Education Foundation and has co-authored the CARES (Children are Really Extra Special) program, a business/ education partnership that involves over 1,000 children in the Greensville County School system.
E. Cabell Brand is Chairman of the Cabell Brand Center for International Poverty and Resource Studies. Mr. Brand served on the Board of Directors of First Virginia Banks and was a member of the State Board of Health for nine years, serving as Chairman for three years. He founded Total Action Against Poverty in the Roanoke Valley and helped start programs for low income people, including Head Start, Virginia CARES, and the Virginia Water Project. Raymond E. Brann, Jr. is the former Executive Vice President and member of the Senior Management Committee of First Virginia Banks, Inc., (now BB&T) Falls Church, Virginia (retired). For years, she served as a labor and personnel attorney for Reynolds Metals Company. A former member of the Virginia House of Delegates (1986-1998), she was a key figure on both the Health, Welfare & Institutions and Appropriations Committees. Ms. Cunningham has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including Virginia State University’s Board of Visitors, the State Social Services Board, the Virginia Poverty Law Center, the Civil Rights Memorial Foundation board, and the State Council for Higher Education (SCHEV). Ellen McCloy Hall is the former President of the Mobil Foundation and Manager of the Corporate and Community Affairs Department. Before her career at Mobil Corporation, she held the position of Assistant to the President of CBS News. Ms. McCloy Hall also has served on the boards of Wolf Trap and Marymount University. Now in retirement, she is active in various local community and church endeavors. She received her Bachelor's degree from Smith College.
Edward L. Hamm, Jr. is President of E.L. Hamm & Associates, Inc., a management and engineering consulting firm headquartered in Virginia Beach. Mr. Hamm serves on the Industrial Development Services Advisory Board for the State of Virginia, and the Hampton Industrial Development Authority. Grace E. Harris, PhD is a distinguished professor in the Center for Public Policy at Virginia Commonwealth University and heads a special leadership institute established in her name. Dr. Harris is well known and respected in the Richmond area. She has served in a variety of positions at VCU, including Dean of the School of Social Work and as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at VCU (1993-1999). Dr. Harris has served on the boards of many key Richmond organizations and businesses, including the Christian Children’s Fund, the Maymont Foundation and Richfood Holdings, and is a Trustee emerita of the University of Richmond. Clarion E. Johnson, MD (Past Chair) is Global Medical Director of the Medicine and Occupational Health-Global for Exxon Mobil. A cardiologist and internist, he has received a significant number of awards and fellowships, and has published extensively. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine in the subspecialty Cardiovascular Diseases as well as Occupational Medicine. He is also an avid supporter of the Washington Free Clinic in Washington, D.C. Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and the Yale School of Medicine.
Lemuel E. Lewis is Past Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Landmark Communications, a privately held media company located in Norfolk, Virginia, with national interests in newspapers, broadcasting, cable programming and electronic publishing. Mr. Lewis serves on the Board of Trustees of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, on the Board of Directors of Markel Corporation, on the Board of Trustees of Virginia Wesleyan College, and on the Board of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC). Mr. Lewis holds both a BA in economics and an MBA from the University of Virginia.
Leigh B. Middleditch, Jr. (Past Chair) is a partner in the law firm McGuireWoods, LLP and McGuireWoods Consulting, LLC. Involved in state and local affairs, he is a member of the State Health Planning Board, Chairman of the University of Virginia's Health Sciences Foundation, and a founder of the Virginia Institute of Political Leadership. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Association and chair-elect of the ABA’s Senior Lawyers Division. He is also Chairman of the Medicine and Law Committee of the International Bar Association. Mr. Middleditch is a graduate of the University of Virginia and its law school.
Bruce Randolph Murray is the president of Greenbrier Management, LP in Charlottesville, Virginia. Ms. Murray is the former Chairman of the Charlottesville Free Clinic and continues to sit on its Board. She is active on several Charlottesville area Boards including the Martha Jefferson Hospital Health Services Board, Central Virginia Chapter National Multiple Sclerosis Society Advisory Board, and Habitat for Humanity - Greater Charlottesville Area Advisory Board. In addition, Ms. Murray was one of the original founders of the Emily Couric Leadership Forum. Ms. Murray was the co-recipient of the Silver Hope Award in l998, and the Shenandoah Chapter of the National Society Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE) Volunteer Philanthropist of the Year in l999. James G. Nuckolls, MD is an internist from Galax, Virginia and Medical Director of the Carilion Medical Group, which is the largest primary care group in Virginia, with more than 200 physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants in 70 offices across western Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. Dr. Nuckolls has served as President of the American Society of Internal Medicine and Chair of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Initiatives to Expand Care for Underserved Americans. He is also a faculty member of the University of Virginia and was elected to the Institute of Clinical Medicine in 1992.
Philip M. Reilly (Past Chair) is Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Kol Bio Medical Instruments, Inc. A resident of Fairfax County, he is past Chairman of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Business Healthcare Task Force; past Vice Chairman of the Northern Region of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce; past Chairman of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce; and winner of the Washington Post Cup as Citizen of the Year. Mr. Reilly graduated from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; and received his MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He has served as Chairman of the Arts Council of Fairfax County and is on the Executive Committee of the Medmarc Insurance Company. As a lieutenant in the Marine Corps, he served as an infantry platoon commander in Vietnam.
Minnis E. Ridenour is retired from Virginia Tech where he served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Ridenour continues to serve Virginia Tech as Senior Fellow for Resource Development. His current efforts include teaching graduate courses in Financial Management for Governmental and Non-Profit Organizations and fund-development for the Arts including support for a new Visual and Performing Arts facility. Mr. Ridenour serves as Chairman of the Virginia United Methodist Homes Board, and is a member of the board of Hollins University, the Carilion Foundation Board, and the Blacksburg Partnership. He has served on a number of other non-profit boards over the past several years. He also served as chairman of Rocco, Inc. and on the Board of Petroleum Marketers, Inc. (PMI). In 2001, Mr. Ridenour received the NACUBO Distinguished Business Officers award from his professional association for his work in higher education. He holds both his bachelor's and master's degrees from The University of Tennessee.
Thomas G. Snead, Jr. (Past Chair) is the retired president and CEO of the Southeast Region for WellPoint, Inc. Prior to the merger of Anthem, Inc. and WellPoint Health Networks Inc. in November 2004, Mr. Snead served as President of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Southeast region. Mr. Snead joined Trigon Healthcare, Inc. (acquired by Anthem in 2002) in 1985 and held several financial manager positions until 1990. Mr. Snead was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 1990 and was elected President and Chief Operating Officer in 1997. In 1999, Mr. Snead was elected to the Trigon Board of Directors and named President and Chief Executive Officer. In 2000, he was elected Chairman of the Board. Before joining the company, Mr. Snead served on the staff of public accounting firm KPMG, LLP and was the financial executive for several small firms in the Richmond area. In addition to having served as Chair of the Virginia Health Care Foundation Board of Trustees, Mr. Snead currently serves as Director on the following boards: LandAmerica Corporation, The Blue Healthcare Bank, Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Trustees, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business Foundation, Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Virginia Historical Society, and Riverside Health System. Mr. Snead earned a BS in accounting, with honors, from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1976.
Karla M. Sorensen spent the last 22 years as Vice-President of both Alban Development Corporation and Sorensen Construction Corporation in Woodbridge, Virginia. The companies are residential land developers, homebuilders, and residential marketing specialists. Certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Ms. Sorensen has served on numerous community, medical, and educational boards including the Board of Visitors of Marymount University; the Virginia Hospital Centers, Visiting Nurse Home Care, Inc., the Arlington Health Ventures Group, Inc. ; and the University of Virginia, School of Nursing Advisory Board. Ms. Sorensen is a graduate of Marymount University, the University of Virginia, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
James M. Turner, Jr. is Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman of J.M. Turner & Company, Inc. Mr. Turner represents the second generation in J.M. Turner & Company, Inc., (a general contracting firm). He earned his B.S. in Commerce from Washington and Lee University and received his J.D. from W&L's School of Law. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1967 to 1973. Mr. Turner is a Trustee of both Carilion Health System and Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, is Chairman of the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission, serves on the Advisory Board of BB&T, and is President of the Western Virginia Land Trust. In addition to participating in many other civic activities, he is past President of Valley Beautiful, the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Roanoke Valley, the Science Museum of Western Virginia and the Roanoke Chapter of Trout Unlimited. He is past Chairman of the Roanoke Civic Center Commission, the Roanoke Neighborhood Partnership, and the Roanoke City School Board. |
