Leading for the Long Term
Leading for the Long Term is the Virginia Health Care Foundation's leadership development program for leaders from Virginia health care safety net organizations.
An eight-month program, Leading for the Long Term offers participants a variety of self-assessments, high level presentations, participatory sessions and opportunities for peer-to-peer exchange. The program also utilizes a special website to provide extensive resources and sustained interaction between sessions. Individual leadership coaches also are available to help participants with specific challenges or issues.
Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources, Marilyn Tavenner (now
principal deputy administrator
for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) joined VHCF in welcoming the inaugural class of 20 leaders from around Virginia. Participants were selected through a competitive application process and included executive directors from free clinics and community health centers and senior leadership from three Virginia hospitals and a local medical society.
