Today's economy is taking its toll on Virginians, costing many people their jobs and their health insurance coverage. Fortunately, children are not being forced to go without health care, thanks to the FAMIS program, which provides free or low-cost health insurance for eligible Virginia children.  To make sure children have the healthiest start possible, FAMIS MOMS also provides health care coverage for pregnant woman.

The FAMIS programs are not Welfare.  They help children receive health insurance and health care until their parents are able to re-enter the workforce. 

FAMIS insurance covers:

	Doctor visits		Prescription medicines
	Hospital care		Eyeglasses
	Dental care		Immunizations
	Regular check-ups		And more

There are also many sites around the state that have staff on-hand to help families find out more information and get their children enrolled.  Check out this list of locations statewide where you can get help.  These projects receive funding from VHCF to help enroll eligible children.   

VHCF sponsors locally based Project Connect initiatives to enroll eligible children in Virginia's state-sponsored health insurance programs, FAMIS and FAMIS Plus. Since 2000, 50,000 children have been enrolled in state-sponsored health insurance by VHCF grantees. 

In addition to Project Connect, VHCF provides training and technical assistance to community organizations interested in initiating and implementing enrollment activities through SignUpNow.
