Children's Health

Bright futures begin with healthy children.

Children who have access to regular

health care learn better, have a higher

quality of life and lower long-term

medical and dental expenses.

Early and regular health care also

helps prevent or lessen the severity of

many diseases, including heart disease,

hypertension, diabetes and some forms

of cancer.

One of the best ways to ensure that children have access to the care they need is to provide them with health insurance. VHCF’s Children's Health Insurance Initiative helps do just that.

VHCF sponsors locally based initiatives to enroll eligible children in Virginia's state-sponsored health insurance programs, FAMIS and FAMIS Plus. VHCF's Project Connect grants have led to the enrollment of more than 41,000 children throughout the Commonwealth.

In addition, through SignUpNow, VHCF provides training and technical assistance to community organizations interested in initiating and implementing enrollment activities

This map shows current and past VHCF Children's Health Insurance Initiative grantees. Together, these organizations have helped tens of thousands of Virginia children.

From grocery stores, to factories and church revivals, Rhonda has spent the last six years searching out eligible uninsured children and helping them enroll in the state’s child health insurance programs.
