Project Connect

VHCF Project Connect grants are helping bring the benefits of health insurance -- and a healthier future -- to Virginia's uninsured children.

These Virginia Health Care Foundation grants, made possible with funding from the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services and the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, allow local organizations to hire outreach workers who help families apply for Virginia's state-sponsored health insurance programs for children (FAMIS and FAMIS Plus)

To-date, Project Connect grantees have helped enroll more than 44,000 children in the FAMIS Programs and have aided nearly 5,000 others with renewing and retaining their coverage.

Currently there are 13 Project Connect grantees targeted strategically to serve the Virginia localities with the highest numbers of uninsured children.

Charles Charitable Trust, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Capital One, MAMSI (UnitedHealthcare) and Carilion, the three local pilots, which ran through 2006, enrolled nearly 5,200 children in the FAMIS Programs and assisted 1,196 others in renewing their coverage.
