2003 Eastern Virginia Telemedicine Network
The Eastern Virginia Telemedicine Network (EVTN) was originally developed to connect primary health care providers on the Eastern Shore to EVMS’ continuing medical education (CME) offerings.
Since its inception, EVTN has grown to cover much of Virginia’s eastern seaboard. In FY02, 433 health care professionals in eastern Virginia received 2,194 hours of CME credit, compared to the four providers who watched the inaugural broadcast in 1998.
In addition, the number of health care facilities connecting to EVTN has more than doubled. Nine sites in Tidewater have been added to the eight original EVTN sites on the Eastern Shore. Of these 17 sites, six facilities are paying an annual subscription for the content.
As a result of provider demand, EVTN has also expanded its grand rounds series from three to seven areas of focus. The network has also down-linked satellite video conferences from agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and simultaneously rebroadcast them for its members.
