2007 Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP) of Roanoke Valley
Since its inception, 14 years ago, CHIP of Roanoke Valley has provided a medical home and case management services to hundreds of young, at-risk children within the greater Roanoke Valley.
Although CHIP began with one program and one focus, it has been expanding its scope of services ever since. It now has a wide array of programs, including partnerships with a variety of colleges and organizations, mental health services, pregnancy and new parent assistance, pediatric asthma and dental services.
CHIP has flourished since its “graduation” from VHCF funding, growing from three employees when it started to 40 FTEs. The budget has grown, as well, from $200,000 in 1994 to $1.3 million in 2006.
“All in all, what started as a small, nonprofit trying to provide a medical home to low income children has blossomed into the Roanoke area’s ‘go to’ entity for all aspects of health care for children from birth to age seven. Its reach is far, its knowledge is deep, and its results made a profound difference in the lives of the children and families it serves.”
