VHCF grants currently are focused in four areas, each of which has

its own application criteria and process:

Health Safety Net grants;
Children's Health Project Connect grants;
Medication Access RxRelief Virginia grants; and
Mental Health grants funded through a new initiative, A New Lease on Life: Health for Virginians with Mental Illness.

Children's Health, Medication Access and A New Lease on Life grants:

Funding for Children's Health initiatives, Medication Access programs and A New Lease on Life: Health for Virginians with Mental Illness is awarded only in response to periodic requests for proposal.  For more information on grants available for those initiatives, visit the Children's Health, Medication Access and Mental Health areas of the VHCF website.

Currently, there is a special Project Connect Request for Proposal for Danville and Pittsylvania County.  To apply, organizations must have attended a pre-proposal workshop on May 6th.  Formal proposals are due to VHCF on June 5th, 2009.  Notification of awards will be in July 2009.

Health Safety Net Grants

Virginia Health Care Foundation health safety net grants are awarded in two cycles each year, in the spring and fall. There are three steps to the VHCF health safety net grant application process.

Step One Determine if your organization and the project you're proposing meet general eligibility requirements, and review the VHCF Grant Guidelines.
Step Two If your organization and project meet the general eligibility requirements for a VHCF grant, you will need to submit a concept paper.
Step Three If VHCF invites your organization to develop your concept further, you will need to submit a formal proposal.  (Note:  please do not submit a formal proposal if your organization has not been requested to do so.)

Please note that an invitation to submit a concept paper or a formal proposal does not guarantee funding for a project. Grant awards are assured only after:

the application/review process is complete,
the VHCF Board of Trustees has made final determinations regarding awards, and
a satisfactory letter of agreement has been signed by all appropriate parties.
