Roger Henderson
Bedford Community Health Foundation
"Roger is kind and talented, and the original Energizer bunny."
For sixteen years, Roger Henderson was the Executive Director of the Bedford Community Health Foundation. Though Roger recently retired, his impact on the community has helped to make Bedford a healthier place to live. From dental care to prescription assistance, from school nurses to Bedford Ride, Roger's legacy is far-reaching and will be long-lasting.
Roger's last initiative before retirement was Bedford Ride, the community's answer for people without transportation who need to get to their doctor and dental appointments or other health-related destinations. Roger convened meetings, successfully wrote numerous grants, and helped steer the strategic plan to create it.
The result is a "neighbors helping neighbors" approach that is meeting a growing need in this rural community. Today, Bedford Ride provides non-emergency medical transportation to the entire county of Bedford through an extensive network of volunteers. In 2003, over 4,000 rides were provided by more than 150 volunteer drivers.
