Jan Rasnake, FNP
Smyth County Free Clinic
When Jan became the free clinic’s nurse practitioner in 2003, she not only increased the number of patients that could be seen, she also made a huge difference in their health. She was determined from the start to give each patient her utmost care and attention, making everyone feel special.
Jan’s success with diabetic patients has been a real stand out. By working one on one with them, nearly 90% reduced their blood sugar levels and half achieved the goal of a “healthy” rating.
Jan’s compassion and caring spirit have endeared her to the staff and patients alike. Earning her patients’ confidence and trust, she has been able to coax out information about their health that some had never told anyone before. Jan treats the whole person – from head to toe – coming up with a plan that makes sense for each.
Jan worked right up to the day she delivered her second child, and she hasn’t slowed since, treating and tracking nearly one thousand people last year alone.
