Since 2002, the five-member Northern Neck Free Health Clinic pharmacy team has developed systems and processes to maximize the clinic’s access to free and reduced-cost medicines.

The team’s impact is reflected in the numbers. Overall pharmacy costs represented 50% of the Clinic budget in 2001. They were reduced to 28% in 2006. This is due to the team’s tight-running, money-saving, solution-driven, patient-oriented operation. Without the Clinic pharmacy, very few of these patients would have even tried to obtain many of these pharmaceuticals due to their cost.

“While the clinic has certainly benefited, spending only $63,954 on medicines last year, the true beneficiaries are the patients. Very few would have even tried to obtain these medications on their own, due to their cost.”
