Wells Fargo Achievement Award for Outstanding VHCF Alumna

The Wells Fargo Achievement Award for Outstanding Virginia Health Care Foundation Alumna, honors the organization which has best sustained itself and continued to excel after it has “graduated” from VHCF funding.

“Wells Fargo is proud to underwrite this special award, because it reflects many of the qualities of entrepreneurism and good stewardship which we value and practice at Wells Fargo.”   In addition to providing recognition, Wells Fargo also provides each year’s winner with a check for $10,000.

The 2011 award winner is The Rescue Mission of Roanoke.

In 2003, the Rescue Mission of Roanoke established a small free clinic within its shelter for the homeless and started providing basic medical care to its clients. Once it started, it didn’t stop.

The Rescue Mission now also offers behavioral health services, dental care, and a respite program for the area’s homeless who are discharged from the hospital.  All of this is now housed in a new 7300 square foot facility instead of the small basement room where the medical clinic started.
