New River Valley Free Clinic Consortium
Before receiving a grant from VHCF in 2006 to explore options for interoperability among health safety net providers in the New River Valley, the Free Clinic of Pulaski County, the Free Clinic of the New River Valley, and the Mental Health Association of the New River Valley operated as entirely separate entities. After a two year process that entailed extensive planning, negotiation, and implementation, the Free Clinic Consortium of the New River Valley was formed. Now, with significant systems changes including a shared database and a common patient identification card in place; patients can access all three clinics through a seamless system, giving them access to an expanded array of services and more hours of care each week

New River Valley Senior Services MedRide
A VHCF grant, in 1996, helped support the New River Valley's volunteer-driven non-emergency medical transportation service.

A VHCF grant helped expand dental care for uninsured children in Northampton County schools by establishing a second dental trailer for its school-based dental program.

Northern Neck Free Health Clinic
VHCF has helped the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic expand medical, dental and mental health services to area residents. One VHCF grant allowed the clinic to add full-time nurse practitioner and a second grant allowed the clinic, in partnership with VCU dental school, to provide dental care to NNFHC patients. The most recent funding expands mental health services for patients at the free clinic and to expands medical care for clients of the area Community Services Board.
In addition, the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic is part of the Greater Williamsburg Medication Access Program, administered by VHCF. This program helps the free clinic obtain free prescription medications for qualified patients, using VHCF's The Pharmacy Connection software to access pharmaceutical company programs for patients in need.

Northern Virginia Dental Clinic
A grant from VHCF to help fund a dental assistant and dental supplies helped this dental clinic increase the availability of dental care for the uninsured of Arlington and Fairfax Counties and in the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church.

Northern Virginia Family Service
RxRelief Virginia funding from VHCF enabled Northern Virginia Family Service to underwrite Medication Assistance Caseworker (MAC) positions working in its Loudoun Community Health Center and Greater Prince William Community Health Center programs. MACs help eligible individuals access free medications from pharmaceutical companies’ patient assistance programs utilizing VHCF’s Pharmacy Connection software.

Northern Virginia Family Service
Two grants from VHCF have bolstered Northern Virginia Family Services ability to help uninsured children receive the care they need. The first helped expand the combined services offered by Healthy Families and CHIP programs in Arlington. The second established a 'Medical Care for Children Project' in Loudoun County targeted to the county's growing population of low-income children.

In working to help alleviate a chronic shortage of primary care providers in underserved areas, VHCF provided a grant to ODU to help fund scholarships for students in medically underserved areas seeking to participate in a new satellite 'distance learning' nurse practitioner program.

Olde Towne Medical Center
Olde Towne Medical Center provides comprehensive primary medical and dental care to the underserved residents of James City County, York County and the City of Williamsburg.
Through the mental health initiative A New Lease on Life, Olde Towne Medical Center patients are able to receive important mental health services.
Among the other grants VHCF has awarded to OTMC are funding for part-time dentist and the purchase of dental equipment to expand the center's dental services, a grant to add a third exam suite and improve the efficiency of the offices, and funding for a nurse practitioner to broaden services available to area working poor and uninsured. VHCF also partners with OTMC on the Greater Williamsburg Area Medication Access Program.

Onley Community Health Center
VHCF awarded a grant to the Eastern Shore Rural Health System, Inc. (ESRHS) to support the salary and benefits of a full-time physician at the Onley Community Health Center. The physician will enable the center to provide an additional 4,600 visits per year.
