VCU Health System
VHCF funding is expanding an innovative mental health counseling program for uninsured and underserved residents of the Richmond metro area. The funding allows the VCU Health System's Ambulatory Care Center to provide basic mental health services to its patients while also offering training for medical residents and psychology clinicians. By supporting the salary of VCU psychology faculty and underwriting a 10-hours-per-week psychologist to provide supervision, treatment and consultation, VHCF is helping triple the number of patients cared for and expand the number of mental health treatment sessions provided from 750 to 3,000.

VCU/MCV
Funding from VHCF helped support the School of Dentistry's mobile dental clinic which operates three days a week providing both screening and primary oral health services to targeted indigent populations. Other VHCF funding launched an innovative breast cancer detection and awareness campaign targeted to African-American women in the Richmond metropolitan area.

Virginia Association of Free Clinics
VHCF makes training and technical assistance in a variety of areas readily available to VAFC members, strengthening the infrastructure of the Commonwealth’s 32 free clinics. In addition, a VHCF grant to VAFC enabled it to establish an accreditation program and related web-based database for its members. VAFC developed standards for governance, administration and program service and envisions a phased approach to accreditation, with the goal of 15 accredited free clinics by the end of 2009.

Virginia Community Healthcare Association
VHCF grants have helped the Virginia Community Healthcare Association to purchase and install E-Clinical Works, an electronic health records system, at community health centers statewide. In addition, VHCF has supported preceptorships through the SCEPTER program for health careers students interested in practicing in Virginia’s medically underserved communities.

Virginia Dental Association
VHCF helped establish a Mission of Mercy (MOM) Project to serve at least three dentally underserved areas through the use of weekend volunteer dental provider projects. In addition, VHCF provided funding to the VDA's Donated Dental Services program, which provides comprehensive dental treatment to disabled, elderly, and medically compromised individuals with extensive dental problems.

Virginia Western Community College Telemedicine Dental Hygiene Initiative
With VHCF funding, VWCC was able to expand its dental hygiene program in Roanoke to an additional site in the Danville area. Students received both traditional and distance learning through the program.

Funding from VHCF enabled the West Piedmont Health District to hire a part-time dentist to provide comprehensive dental care for adults at the Martinsville clinic two days per week.

Western Tidewater Free Clinic
An RxRelief Virginia grant from VHCF helped the Western Tidewater Free Clinic to help patients with chronic diseases receive the medications they needed, via The Pharmacy Connection software. WTFC is a non-profit, community based organization that provides free medical and dental care to individuals who meet eligibility requirements. Patients must be residents of the cities of Franklin and Suffolk and the counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton.

Western Tidewater Health District Children's Dental Clinic
VHCF funding helped provide preventive and restorative dental services to elementary school children in the rural counties of Southampton and Isle of Wight.
