Alexandria Neighborhood Health Services, Inc.
VHCF has provided a number of grants to this community health provider, the most recent of which added a full-time nurse practitioner and a full-time medical assistant to care for walk-in patients and those with women's health issues. ANHSI also recently was awarded a VHCF grant through A New Lease on Life: Health for Virginians with Mental Illness. That grant increased access to basic mental health services and prescription medications for ANHSI’s patients, and provided medical care to uninsured clients of ACBHD and ACSB. Other VHCF grants to ANHSI have helped underwrite the salary and benefits of a part-time physician to provide primary medical care to uninsured and medically underserved patients of the center’s Adult Medicine Clinic, start-up funds for the Arlandria Health Center which provides accessible primary and preventive health services to medically indigent Hispanic women and children in the City of Alexandria, as well as funding to hire an additional physician for the Adult Medicine Clinic and support for Clinical Mental Health Services for El Centro Familiar. In addition, through Project Connect, VHCF has helped ANHSI enroll eligible children and mothers from Arlington and Alexandria in FAMIS, Virginia’s maternal and child health insurance programs.

Alexandria Neighborhood Health Services, Inc.
Alexandria Neighborhood Health Services, Inc. expanded its Medication Assistance Program by using RxRelief Virginia funding from VHCF. The funds helped ANHSI add a full-time Medication Assistance Caseworker (MAC) to assist eligible individuals primarily from Alexandria City and Arlington and Fairfax counties. Free medications are obtained by the MAC from pharmaceutical companies’ patient assistance programs via The Pharmacy Connection software provided by VHCF. VHCF has provided a number of grants to this community health provider. Arlington Free Clinic
VHCF grants helped make it possible for the Arlington Free Clinic to operate three specialty medical clinics each month to supplement the general medical services offered in the weekly general clinic. The clinics provide comprehensive care in a setting familiar to patients, many of whom do not speak English. VHCF funding also enabled the Arlington Free Clinic to expand its hours and services at its satellite clinic in Arna Valley, a low-income housing complex occupied primarily by Hispanic residents. The most recent VHCF grant enabled the Arlington Free Clinic to help fund construction of the Timely Access to Care area of the clinic’s new facility. The new space will enable the free clinic to provide an estimated 3,000 additional patient visits per year.

Fairfax Community Health Care Network
VHCF funding helped the Fairfax Community Health Care Network (CHCN) open and operate a third primary care center in the northwestern part of Fairfax County to serve low-income, uninsured residents.

Greater Prince William Area Community Health Center
Among VHCF funding provided the Greater Prince William Area Community Health Center (GPWCHC)is a grant to dramatically expand access to dental care. The Center received a $75,000 grant to support its dental practice for uninsured area residents. New funding through A New Lease on Life provides basic mental health services and prescription medications for GPWCHC patients as well as providing medical care to consumers of the Prince William Community Services Board through GPWCHC’s mobile van.

Inova Health System Foundation Pediatric Center
When launching a new program to provide free primary care services for 1,300 uninsured children through the efforts of volunteer physicians, the Inova Health System Foundation turned to VHCF for funding to provide continuity of care via paid nursing/nurse practitioner staff positions.

Inova Partnership for Healthier Kids
Inova Health System Partnership for Healthier Kids received VHCF funding to establish an intensive care coordination initiative to identify school-age children in need of primary care and/or immunizations and link them to an appropriate provider. In addition, as a VHCF Project Connect grantee, Inova PHK is helping enroll eligible, uninsured children from Alexandria, Fairfax City, Fairfax County, Loudoun County and Falls Church in the state-sponsored health insurance programs for children, FAMIS and FAMIS Plus. Project Connect grants are made possible with funding from the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services and the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.

Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic
A new grant from VHCF is enabling the Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic to better meet the increased demand for care in Fairfax County. The funding will support the salary of a part-time nurse practitioner, expanding its clinic services to four days a week. Prior VHCF funding enabled the Jeannie Schmidt Free Clinic to add a part-time physician and double clinic hours to 18 hours a week. An additional grant, supporting the salary of a part-time nurse practitioner, helped the free clinic increase the care provided to chronically ill adults and boost the screening provided area residents. This free clinic serves uninsured patients in Fairfax County, in particular, the communities of Herndon, Chantilly, Reston and Centreville.
