Alexandria Neighborhood Health Services, Inc. VHCF has provided a number of grants to this community health provider, the most recent of which added a full-time nurse practitioner and a full-time medical assistant to care for walk-in patients and those with women's health issues. ANHSI also recently was awarded a VHCF grant through A New Lease on Life: Health for Virginians with Mental Illness. That grant increased access to basic mental health services and prescription medications for ANHSI’s patients, and provided medical care to uninsured clients of ACBHD and ACSB.
Other VHCF grants to ANHSI have helped underwrite the salary and benefits of a part-time physician to provide primary medical care to uninsured and medically underserved patients of the center’s Adult Medicine Clinic, start-up funds for the Arlandria Health Center which provides accessible primary and preventive health services to medically indigent Hispanic women and children in the City of Alexandria, as well as funding to hire an additional physician for the Adult Medicine Clinic and support for Clinical Mental Health Services for El Centro Familiar.
In addition, through Project Connect, VHCF has helped ANHSI enroll eligible children and mothers from Arlington and Alexandria in FAMIS, Virginia’s maternal and child health insurance programs.
