United Way -Thomas Jefferson Area (UWTJA)

Both children and adults in the greater Charlottesville area have benefited greatly from VHCF grants to the United Way - Thomas Jefferson Area.

Nearly 3,500 children in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Orange and Louisa Counties were enrolled in state-sponsored health insurance through UWTJA's "Project Connect" and "Covering Kids and Families" initiatives.

In addition, uninsured area residents who suffer from chronic illnesses but cannot afford their medications can turn to UWTJA for "RxRelief." RxRelief Virginia funds underwrite the salaries and fringe benefits of Medication Assistance Caseworkers who access free medicines from pharmaceutical companies’ Patient Assistance Programs using VHCF's The Pharmacy Connection software. Patients enroll in RxRelief through referrals and on-site assistance at the Region Ten Community Services Board, Martha Jefferson Hospital satellite clinics, and the Charlottesville Free Clinic.

RxRelief Virginia is a special initiative designed to establish or expand Medication Assistance Programs throughout Virginia. It is administered by VHCF and funded by the state.
