The Healthy Communities Loan Fund (HCLF) process starts when you contact VHCF to inquire about the program. Click here to view the application materials.

Once your HCLF application and supporting documentation have

been received, HCLF staff will contact you to confirm receipt and advise you on the loan approval process.

The HCLF Loan Advisory Group reviews each application for the following:

Is the applicant a licensed provider in good standing with their professional board in Virginia?
Will the money requested be used to open, maintain or expand a practice?
Is this practice in an area designated as a medically underserved area/ health professional shortage area?

If the Loan Advisory Group's vote is favorable, HCLF will forward your loan packet to the BB&T business banker in your area who will contact you and begin the customary BB&T underwriting process. BB&T is actively involved in every Loan Fund application and makes the final decision on all loan requests.

Bradley Free Clinic
dentist
Bradley Free Clinic is the only source of free dental care for adults in the Roanoke Valley. Until August of 2004, the clinic had only one weekly session seeing about 15 patients primarily for emergency extractions. Funding from VHCF and a partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry has allowed expansion of the dental program. This expansion, which focuses on restorative and preventive services, has increased dental access for low-income, uninsured residents of the Roanoke Valley.
