While all local health departments provide a core group of public health services, some also provide more in-depth care. Eligibility requirements vary between health districts, as do the services provided.

Core Services available via all VDH health districts statewide:

  Childhood immunizations;   Family Planning Services;
  Pregnancy testing and counseling;   Blood lead level testing;
  Prenatal and postpartum care;   Tuberculosis screening, diagnosis, & treatment
  STD screening, diagnosis and treatment;   Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programs;
  HIV/AIDS assessment, monitoring, and case management services;   Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment to cover necessary pediatric services for low-income children;
  Many, but not all, also offer foreign travel immunizations
