In addition to Free Clinics and Community Health Centers,
Hospitals, the Virginia Department of Health and
other community organizations contribute to Virginia's health safety net.
What kind of help could I receive from community organizations?
Some community organizations expand on the services offered by free clinics and community health centers. Depending on the organization, one or more of the following services might be available:

Is there financial assistance available to help me afford hospital care?
Virginia hospitals have financial assistance policies designed to help low-income patients pay their hospital bills. These policies explain who is eligible for free or discounted care. Typically eligibility is based on the patient’s income level, but other criteria may apply. Assistance may be available to both uninsured and underinsured individuals. How can my local Health Department help?
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) provides core public health services through its 35 health district offices
and 119 local health departments statewide (see a description of the core services provided). Some VDH sites also may offer preventive dental clinics for children, foreign travel immunizations; and/or adult health services. Typically, services are provided on the State of Virginia Sliding Scale Fee Schedule according to ability to pay.
