The Virginia Health Care Foundation administers two sub-initiatives under Virginia’s Rural Health Transformation Program:

Provider Interoperability

VHCF awarded $14.39 million to rural providers under the Provider Interoperability sub-initiative to transform rural health care providers’ digital health care infrastructure through investments that improve network capacity, modernize electronic health records, strengthen cybersecurity, and enable electronic data exchange.

Provider Productivity

VHCF awarded $8.6 million to support rural health care providers’ adoption of digital productivity tools, including AI-enabled decision-support, documentation, and workflow automation, to reduce administrative burden, ease provider burnout, and allow rural clinicians to focus more of their valuable time on patient care.

Virginia’s Rural Health Transformation Program

The awards are funded through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program, administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services is the Commonwealth’s lead agency, and VHCF administers the Provider Productivity and Provider Interoperability sub-initiatives.

This subaward is supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $189,544,888 with 100 percent funded by CMS/HHS.
