Virginia Rural Vitality: VHCF’s Role

The Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) is serving as a key implementation partner in Virginia Rural Vitality, the Commonwealth’s multi-year Rural Health Transformation initiative. As part of this initiative, VHCF manages two CareIQ investment areas: Interoperability and Provider Productivity.

Current Opportunity: Assessment and Technical Assistance RFP

As the first step in launching these investments, VHCF has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to select a partner to:

  • Assess rural Virginia’s interoperability and provider productivity landscape
  • Engage stakeholders across the Commonwealth
  • Identify priority needs, readiness, and gaps
  • Inform upcoming CareIQ Interoperability and CareIQ Provider Productivity funding opportunities
  • Provide early training and technical assistance to help providers prepare for future funding

Key RFP Deadlines

  • Assessment and Technical Assistance RFP Released: February 11, 2026
  • Proposals Due: February 25, 2026
  • Contractor Selected: March 11, 2026
  • Work Begins: March 16, 2026
  • Assessment Deliverable Due: April 30, 2026
  • CareIQ Interoperability and CareIQ Provider Productivity Funding RFPs Anticipated: July 2026

What’s Next

Following completion of the assessment, VHCF anticipates releasing funding opportunities to support rural providers in implementing interoperability and productivity solutions aligned with Virginia Rural Vitality goals.
