Now Open: Provider Interoperability & Provider Productivity Request for Applications 

VHCF has two Requests for Applications (RFAs) open under Virginia’s Rural Health Transformation Program. Please read below for more information on both funding opportunities.

PROVIDER INTEROPERABILITY
Applications Due August 31, 2026, at 5:00 PM Eastern 

VHCF anticipates awarding approximately $14 million under this funding opportunity to transform rural health care providers’ digital health care infrastructure through investments in network capacity, electronic health records, cybersecurity, and electronic health data exchange. Collectively, these investments should allow Virginia’s rural health care providers to “leapfrog” legacy health care infrastructure and enable more targeted and connected care delivery in rural communities.

PROVIDER PRODUCTIVITY
Applications Due September 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM Eastern 

VHCF anticipates awarding between $7 million and $9 million under this funding opportunity to support adoption of digital productivity tools, including AI-enabled decision-support, documentation, and workflow automation, to reduce administrative burden, ease provider burnout, and allow rural clinicians to focus more of their valuable time on patient care.

About Virginia’s Rural Health Transformation Program 

Virginia’s  RHTP  was established under Section 71401 of Public Law 119-21 and is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. CMS awarded the Commonwealth a cooperative agreement designating the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) as primary recipient. VHCF is a subrecipient of DMAS and administers the Provider Interoperability sub-initiative. 

This subaward is supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $189,544,888 with 100 percent funded by CMS/HHS.
