Patterson Dental’s Richmond branch and the Bon Secours Richmond Care-A-Van are among the 2015 recipients of the Virginia Health Care Foundation’s Heroes in Health Care Awards, which are given to people and organizations who help the uninsured.

Patterson Dental was awarded the foundation’s Networthy Award. Gov. Terry McAuliffe noted the company’s contributions at the foundation’s May 28 awards program at Richmond CenterStage.

“Eight years ago the folks at Patterson worked hand in hand with the Virginia Health Care Foundation to establish a dental safety net discount program. It extends Patterson’s deepest discounts to every dental safety net clinic in Virginia no matter their size,” McAuliffe said.

“The value of the savings accrued to Virginia’s dental safety net providers through this special initiative has saved them $1.6 million.”

Patterson also has been a longtime sponsor of Mission of Mercy dental safety net outreach clinics and has supported the Virginia Oral Health Coalition, McAuliffe said.

The Bon Secours Richmond Care-A-Van was awarded the foundation’s Wells Fargo Achievement Award.

The Care-A-Van began providing services more than 20 years ago with a single converted motor home.

Today, five custom-equipped mobile units take health care services to dozens of locations in Richmond and Hampton Roads. The award includes a $10,000 donation from Wells Fargo.
