Richmond, Virginia, January 12, 2026 – The Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) has awarded $770,313 in grants to 9 nonprofit organizations throughout Virginia to increase access to behavioral health, medical and dental care for uninsured and medically underserved Virginians.

I’m grateful for the partnerships making this work possible, helping ensure all Virginians have access to health care they need.”
New and continuing grants include:
Behavioral Health: These organizations are focused on increasing and maintaining access to behavioral health services in their communities:
- Bath Community Hospital: $56,625 to partially fund a full-time therapist to decrease wait times and serve more patients
- Eastern Shore Rural Health System: $90,000 to support the salary of a full-time Licensed Clinical Social Worker to provide mental health services at the Atlantic Community Health Services location
- Greater Richmond SCAN: $85,000 to fund a full-time mental health clinician to provide counseling for caregivers of children served by SCAN and its partner organizations
- Youth for Tomorrow: $42,188 to fund a supervisee in social work to provide individual and group therapy
Dental Safety Net: Each grant expands the availability of critical oral health care.
- Bland Ministry Center: $90,000 to fund a full-time dentist, enabling the clinic to accept new patients and increase access to restorative dental care
- Eastern Shore Rural Health System: $75,000 to fund a full-time dentist to expand access to dental care on the Eastern Shore of Virginia
Medical: The following grants expand the availability of primary medical care services in their communities.
- Culmore Clinic: $35,250 to fund a portion of a Family Nurse Practitioner’s salary to expand capacity
- Fredericksburg Christian Health Center: $100,000 to fund a full-time Nurse Practitioner to expand access for uninsured and Medicaid patients
- Neighborhood Health: $140,000 to help support the salary of a new pediatric optometrist at its Arlington Pediatric Center location
- Tri-Area Community Health: $56,250 to hire a Family Nurse Practitioner to provide primary care services in Fries
The Virginia Health Care Foundation is a non-profit public/private partnership with a mission to increase access to primary health care for uninsured and medically underserved Virginians. The Foundation was initiated by the General Assembly and its Joint Commission on Health Care in 1992. Since its inception, it has funded 568 community-based initiatives throughout the Commonwealth and established multiple programs and partnerships. Combined, they have helped more than 900,000 uninsured and medically underserved Virginians obtain the health care they need.
