Free Clinics
Free Clinics
Here at the Virginia Health Care Foundation, we are an important part of Virginia’s health safety net. We support the free clinics and community health centers that DO provide care. If you need help or testing, contact the free clinic near you. To find it, click on this Virginia Association of Free and Charitable Clinics’ listing of Clinics in Virginia.
While VHCF doesn’t provide care or testing —free clinics provide low-income, uninsured Virginians with free or low cost health services. They depend on the generosity of volunteer physicians, nurses, dentists and other health professionals. They also rely on community support, and benefit from grants from foundations like the Virginia Health Care Foundation to help them expand services and care for more patients. They do not receive federal or state funding.
What kind of care can I get at a Free Clinic?
All of Virginia’s free clinics provide basic health care services and help patients get free or low cost prescription medications. Some also provide dental services and/or mental health care.
How do I know if I am eligible to receive care at a Free Clinic?
Each clinic sets its own income eligibility requirements. Depending on which clinic is in your area, the income limit ranges between 100% or 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
Contact your local free clinic to find out its income eligibility requirements. You’ll also need to find out whether the clinic is accepting new patients. Some free clinics have been so overwhelmed with the increase in new patients that they have had to establish waiting lists or lotteries to determine who can receive care.
